Understanding Xue Le Wang 《学乐网》

Xue Le Wang《学乐网》is a self-directed learning programme that encourages students to be independent learners of Chinese. The programme is suitable for Primary 1 – Primary 6 (Standard Chinese) / Grade 1 – 6. Xue Le Wang is a useful self-directed learning programme that covers the fundamental of Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening for Chinese. The programme was originally developed by the Ministry of Education of Singapore for children to learn Chinese and a total of 747 resources was develop for the entire Primary 1 – 6 levels. After the decommission of the programme by MOE (Singapore), Marshall Cavendish Education has taken over the role in continuously providing Xue Le Wang to learners.

Xue Le Wang is developed using thematic topics relating to real-life scenarios (Example: 今天学校开放了，新年到). Not only that, to reinforce the learning of Chinese, interesting and fun activities are introduced. All of Xue Le Wang resources are being aligned to the Huan Le Huo Ban 《欢乐伙伴》Chinese textbook. Vocabulary found in the textbooks are also being aligned to the textbook where learners are being able to express themselves fluently with the vocabulary learnt.

The programme has a graded menu and its resources are categorised by lesson. The programme consists of the following to engage learners:

Activities Time!

Xue Le Wang consists of a myriad of activities to learn while having fun. The activities include Sing-along songs (唱游世界), Hanyu Pinyin (拼音城堡), Listen and Speak (听说剧场) and Read and Write (读写乐园).

Sing-along songs (唱游世界)
What better way to learn Chinese though the use of songs. With music videos available in Xue Le Wang, learners can sing along with the help of Hanyu Pinyin. Through these songs, it will help learners to improve their understanding and literacy of Chinese language. Learners can also turn off the Hanyu Pinyin assistance and the backing vocals once they are confident with word recognition and pronunciation.

Hanyu Pinyin (拼音城堡)
To ensure children are familiar with the use of Hanyu Pinyin, Xue Le Wang introduces it using games. Through the use of games, learners will be able to deepen their reading and speaking capabilities. Games are also narrated to ensure learners are pronouncing the words correctly.

Listen and Speak (听说剧场)
With narrated animated films and pictures relating to real-life scenarios, Xue Le Wang guides learners on their listening, speaking and reading ability. The use for real-life scenarios are used to that learners will be able to relate new words to their daily life. 

Read and Write (读写乐园)
Reading passages & games are used in these activities to enhance learner’s literacy and writing in Chinese.
